Foundation Overview

The Lake View Cemetery Foundation is a non-profit charitable foundation charged with preserving Lake View Cemetery’s beautiful historic trees, buildings, monuments, and gardens for the enjoyment of current and future generations. We also provide educational outreach programs, tours and events to benefit and enrich the community.

Throughout the year, the Foundation actively raises funds to sustain our buildings and grounds, we plan and host numerous educational tours, concerts, and special events that allow visitors to nurture mind, body and spirit within this special historic place.

Did you know that:

  • We have over 285 acres open to the public with our gates opening at 7:30am every day of the year
  • We’re a Level 2 Arboretum with thousands of trees documented in arbor-care database, including 7 “Moses Cleaveland Trees” that have been here since at least 1796
  • The James A Garfield Memorial is one of only 27 US Presidential memorial sites nationwide and in it you can see a masterwork statue of Garfield, climb to an observation deck for the best view of Cleveland, and pay your respects to Garfield, his wife, daughter and son-in-law in the basement crypt
  • The Wade Memorial Chapel is one of the only complete interiors designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany, was the first electric illuminated building in the city, includes a priceless Tiffany stained glass window and features mosaics with over 43,000 hand-made Tiffany tiles?
  • In the Spring people come from far and wide to see Daffodil Hill, our hillside that has over 150,000 bulbs blooming in unison.
  • Over the last 10 years, we’ve conducted over 1,500 private and 440 public tours, held over 20 public special events and hosted over 40 free community concerts

Our Foundation team looks forward to starting a conversation with you and hope you’ll become part of Lake View’s life, helping ensure its viability now and in the future.
