Years ago, Lake View made the decision to use granite for all memorials. Unlike marble, which is porous and can stain and deteriorate over time, granite is durable, beautiful and will last centuries.

Memorialization of your loved one is very important — it leaves a stamp on the earth. The definition of a headstone at Lake View is any stone less than 14” above the surface of the ground. Single headstones are restricted to 2 ft. in length by 1 ft. in width and double headstones must be 4 ft. X 1 ft. Each section in the cemetery has its own limitations on the height that the stone may protrude above the surface of the ground. Common height parameters are: flush with the ground, 4” raised and 14” raised. Prices for headstones vary dramatically based on size, color of granite, finish and design.

A monument is defined as any stone taller than 14” above the surface of the ground. Granite benches are considered monuments. Monuments are permitted on specially designed lots throughout the cemetery. Monuments provide an opportunity to meet with our designers for the ultimate customization in telling your family's story. Much like headstones, the prices for monuments vary dramatically based on size, color of granite, finish and design.

Temporary Headstone Program

Many families who have just experienced the loss of a loved one choose to take advantage of our temporary headstone program. For $162, a temporary headstone is ordered and, depending on timing, may be placed on the grave immediately following the committal service. The temporary headstone will stay on the grave for a period of 90 days. After 90 days the temporary headstone is removed, unless the family has initiated the purchase of their permanent headstone. If the permanent headstone has been purchased, the temporary headstone will stay on the grave until the permanent headstone arrives and is installed. Additionally, the $162 is credited to the cost of the permanent headstone when it is purchased at Lake View and the family may take the temporary headstone home as a keepsake within 30 days of its removal.
