Spanish Nights

An evening of mesmerizing Spanish Guitar works composed across several centuries.

This concert will take place in the Wade Memorial Chapel and will last approximately 1 hour. Featuring Nathaniel Hill, a senior at CIM studying with Jason Vieaux

NATHANIEL HILL (guitar) is a classical guitarist known for his refined artistry, compelling stage presence, and deep musical sensitivity. He is currently pursuing a Double Graduate Diploma in Guitar Performance and Orchestral Conducting at the Cleveland Institute of Music, studying with Grammy Award-winner Jason Vieaux and conductor Tito Muñoz. Since arriving at CIM, Nathaniel has emerged as a dynamic performer across solo, chamber, and orchestral settings. He has presented solo recitals throughout Ohio, the Carolinas, Kentucky, Virginia, and Georgia, earning a reputation as a seasoned and expressive artist. As a chamber musician, Nathaniel has collaborated in duos with orchestral instruments and voice, as well as in trios and mixed ensembles. In 2024, he was awarded third prize in the Open Division of the Queens International Guitar Competition, and in 2025, was named CIM’s “most gifted classical guitarist” for four consecutive years—an exceptional distinction. Nathaniel made his concerto debut at age 15 with the Piedmont Chamber Orchestra, returning for additional solo appearances in 2022 and 2025. He also performed as soloist with the Asheville Symphony at age 18 and was a finalist in the MasterWorks Festival Concerto Competition.He has played in masterclasses with many of the world’s leading guitarists, including Jason Vieaux, David Russell, Christopher Parkening, Colin Davin, and Rovshan Mamedkuliev. With a nuanced approach to tone and interpretation, Nathaniel continues to shape a wide-ranging career as a performer and advocate for the classical guitar.

ISABEL TRAUTWEIN, Artistic Director, Classically Lake View (violin), joined the first violin section of The Cleveland Orchestra in 2002 after serving as principal second violinist of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, a concertmaster of the New World Symphony Miami, a member of the Houston Symphony and of the Pacifica String Quartet, which held a residency at the University of Chicago. Ms. Trautwein has served as an adjunct at Oberlin Conservatory of Music and coaches frequently at the New World Symphony in Miami. Isabel is in her second year as Artistic Director for Lake View Cemetery’s Classically Lake View chamber music series.

ALICIA KOELZ (violin) joined The Cleveland Orchestra at the beginning of the 2005-06 season. She has appeared as a soloist with the Minnesota Orchestra, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and the Chicago Civic Orchestra, among others. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, she graduated with honors from the Cleveland Institute of Music, with a Bachelor of Music degree and received a Master of Music degree from Northwestern University. Ms. Koelz's most influential teachers included Almita and Roland Vamos, William Preucil, Sally O'Reilly, and Mary West. Her great passions include performing chamber music and spending time with good friends, and she feels fortunate to combine them both as a member of the Omni Quartet.

WILLIAM BENDER (viola) grew up just south of Nashville, Tennessee. He started playing the viola at Vanderbilt University’s Blair Academy at age thirteen. After studies at The Juilliard School and Cleveland Institute of Music, he joined The Philharmonia Orchestra in London as Assistant Principal Viola under Esa-Pekka Salonen and performed in many of the great concert halls of the UK, Germany, Spain, Japan, China and South Korea. Mr. Bender has played principal viola with The Philharmonia, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Echor Music, and London Concertante. He joined the viola section of The Cleveland Orchestra in 2021.Mr. Bender has coached at Oberlin Conservatory, Vanderbilt University, the Australian Youth Orchestra, and the Colombian Youth Philharmonic.

TANYA ELL-WOOLFREY (cello) joined the cello section of The Cleveland Orchestra in February 2007. Ms. Ell was previously a member of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, where she was appointed acting assistant principal cello in 2004. She holds a B.M. degree from the Juilliard School, where she was a student of Aldo Parisot, and an M.M. degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where of Music, where she studied with Richard Aaron. Ms. Ell has participated in a number of summer music festivals, including the Aspen Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, Sarasota Music Festival, and Spoleto USA. She has won first prize in several concerto competitions, including Aspen, Interlochen, Lansing Symphony, and the University of Toledo.

Proceeds benefit the Lake View Cemetery Foundation’s mission to preserve our arboretum and historic landscape and to fund educational programs. All sales are final. Tours and programs will go on regardless of rain, with refunds only if canceled and not rescheduled.
