Commemorating Lake View's 150th

Each year Lake View welcomes thousands of visitors through our gates. Some come to explore, to learn, or to simply enjoy our expansive grounds. Others come for events, tours, concerts, and programs as well as funeral services and visiting loved ones. All of this occurs as we bury over 650 individuals, support bereaved families, and provide the peaceful space to honor their loved ones.

We are celebrating our 150th anniversary over a 2-year period. Why? Because, while we were founded and created in 1869, we did not perform the first burial until 1870, so we felt both milestones were worth commemorating. With 2019 being the first year of our 150th anniversary celebration, we promoted our mission to be a place for the living for all walks of life. Our walks, talks, tours, and community outreach programs are core to our mission.

In 2019 we:

• Introduced over 30,000 visitors and tour groups to the Garfield Memorial and Wade Chapel
• Opened the outdoor photo exhibit “Moonlight in the Gates” by local photographer and artist Michael Weil.
• Hosted 17 Sunday trolley tours and 20 specialty tours, most of which were sold out
• Welcomed over 250 school and civic groups
• Commemorated Memorial Day with our annual program which had 500 individuals from our community attend
• Enjoyed the diverse music of six band concerts with an estimated nearly 2,000 attendees
• Educated over 1,000 students from the “Every Kid in the Park” program in partnership with the James A. Garfield National Historic Site.
• Led tours of hundreds of cruise ship visitors to Wade Chapel
